Awareness about it. The fact that you are reading this, shows you care. Let’s check out some actionable steps.
What to Do Right Now
1. Protect Their Time Like It Is Your Own: Meetings, last minute urgent tasks, constant
messages, these kill productivity and morale. Before adding anything to their plate, ask yourself if this is actually necessary or if you are just making noise. Then cut the nonsense.
2. Back Them Publicly Correct Privately: If someone on your team makes a mistake, own it with them in front of others. Defend them, take the heat, and later behind closed doors help them fix it. Nothing builds loyalty like a leader who refuses to throw their people under the bus.
3. Make Growth Non Negotiable: If your team feels like they are stuck, they will eventually leave or worse they will stay and stop caring. Regularly ask what skill they want to get better at and then actually help them make it happen. Connect them with mentors, pay for training, or just give them room to try new things.
Teams do not thrive because of empty words or token gestures. They thrive when they know their leader genuinely has their back. Be that leader who shows and not just says.
In your corner,
Jonathan
